HUMANE SOCIETY OF WICOMICO COUNTY

Humane Society of Wicomico County works to make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who love and care for them, and is dedicated to relieving the pain and suffering of animals through education and direct intervention. They have provided temporary shelter for the County’s homeless and unwanted animals. Their goal is to adopt or find a rescue for all of their adoptable animals.

MARYLAND FOOD BANK

The Maryland Food Bank is a non-profit organization leading the movement to end hunger in Maryland. They have an extensive network of community and organizational partners across the state that distribute food to the Marylanders who need us. They supply the food to hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and faith-based organizations that serve food-insecure Marylanders. The Maryland Food bank supplements this work with outreach programs that provide direct food assistance, educate the public on the importance of good nutrition, and fight hunger through innovative means. PLAY IT SAFE!

Play it Safe! child abuse awareness and prevention program uses age-appropriate materials to educate children Pre-K through high school in ways they can best learn and respond. Scripts and videos are developed through an evidence-based approach to teach children and teens how to reduce their risk of sexual and physical abuse by recognizing potentially abusive behavior, responding appropriately to threatening situations, and reporting abuse to a trusted adult. Its mission is to inspire and empower women, men and children to overcome violence, crisis and poverty.

WORCESTER COUNTY GOLD (GIVING OTHER LIVES DIGNITY)

Worcester County GOLD (Giving Other Lives Dignity) improves the quality of life for Worcester County residents living in poverty by providing emergency financial aid and items to meet basic needs for infants and children, families in crisis, those who are homeless, and vulnerable adults. BISHOPVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

Bishopville Volunteer Fire Department is comprised of 50 volunteers that are at the communities call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They have a variety of trained personnel from basic firefighters to Nationally Registered Paramedics. The department has two stations, three engines, one tanker, one rescue, one engine tanker, one brush, one utility and two ambulances. As departments there are always boots that need filled to help the community.

OCEAN CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Ocean City Police Department shall provide the highest degree of ethical behavior, professional conduct and quality police services to all residents and visitors. An auxiliary officer is a civilian that is trained to support the police department and serve the citizens of Ocean City by providing volunteer services to supplement regular law enforcement personnel.

OCEAN CITY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company has maintained and expanded its commitment to family tradition. The Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company serves the Ocean City, Maryland Resort Beaches and West Ocean City as its first due area in six box areas.The goal of the Cadet Program, as a whole, is to provide operational support to the Volunteer Fire Company. While providing that support, the program aims to instill confidence and respect in its members, teaching them the skills necessary to function efficiently within the fire service

OCEAN PINES VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department currently has approximately 50 members that respond to calls for fire, rescue or EMS needs. The department supplements volunteer response with 15 employees consisting of 12 full time Firefighter/ Paramedics, 1 part time Firefighter/ EMT-B, 1 full time Administrative Assistant and a full time Career EMS Captain. In the year 2019, the OPVFD responded to a total of 2060 calls for service, consisting of 1762 EMS calls and 298 Fire calls. They are continuing to grow and welcome volunteers!

FURNACE TOWN

The Furnace Town Foundation, Inc. is a private not-for-profit corporation charged with the responsibility of preserving, restoring, interpreting, and developing the twenty five acres of Furnace Town Historic Site, the 19th century village of the Nassawango Iron Furnace. Programs in archeology, history, nature, and artisan interpretation are developed and presented to educate visitors.

JULIA PURNELL MUSEUM

Julia A. Purnell Museum offers exhibits interpreting many aspects of Worcester County’s history. A time-line parallels the history of the County with that of the nation as a whole. The People of the Pocomoke exhibit informs visitors about the history of regional Native Americans.

Komen is the only organization that addresses breast cancer on multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach and public policy initiatives in order to make the biggest impact against this disease. Their mission is to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.

WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN

Women Supporting Women provides awareness, education and support to all those who are affected by breast cancer. Some of their services include prosthetic breast fittings, wigs, educational tote bags, lift chair loaner program and community related events to educate the public, all for free. In addition to their main office, support groups are held in the surrounding counties of Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, and Dorchester.
